The Christian mission is born from a transformed life
Father Roberto Pasolini invites us to rediscover evangelization as the fruit of a life renewed by the Gospel, in his third Lenten meditation before the Pope and the Roman Curia
As part of the Lenten meditations of 2026 in the Vatican, the preacher of the Papal Household, Father Roberto Pasolini, focused his third reflection on the evangelizing mission, emphasizing that this is not a strategy or an external task, but the natural consequence of a life profoundly transformed by the Gospel.
The meditation, delivered before Pope Leo XIV and the members of the Roman Curia, is part of a cycle inspired by the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi and the call to conversion, under the Pauline motto: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”
Evangelize through life, not through theory
Pasolini insisted that the Christian mission does not arise from an organizational effort or a moral obligation, but from a personal experience of communion with Christ that transforms existence. Only a life touched by the Gospel can communicate it authentically.
In this regard, he warned against the risk of reducing faith to a set of abstract ideas or values, detached from concrete life. When this happens, evangelization loses its power and becomes empty rhetoric. Conversely, when the Gospel is lived, it becomes a visible reality that challenges and attracts others.
The mission as an inner overflow
One of the central themes of the reflection was that mission arises as an “overflow” of the inner life. That is, the proclamation of the Gospel is not imposed from the outside, but springs spontaneously from those who have experienced a profound transformation.
This perspective connects with the spiritual journey proposed throughout Lent: conversion, fraternity, mission, and freedom. On this path, mission occupies a key place as a mature expression of lived faith.

Saint Francis, a model of evangelization
Inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi, Pasolini reminded us that the most effective evangelization is that which is carried out through one’s life. The saint did not spread the Gospel primarily through speeches, but through his concrete witness of poverty, humility, and joy.
Thus, the preacher stressed that the Church is called to rediscover a way of proclaiming the Gospel that is credible, incarnate, and coherent, especially in a world marked by conflict, indifference, and a search for meaning.
A call to Christian authenticity
Finally, the meditation posed a clear challenge: before asking how to evangelize, the Christian must ask himself if his life has truly been transformed by the encounter with Christ.
Mission, Pasolini concluded, is not an added burden to the Christian life, but its most genuine fruit. Only those who live the Gospel can proclaim it truthfully, thus becoming credible witnesses to a hope that the world needs to rediscover.
