Thank You, Doctor!: A Movement Inspiring and Transforming Global Healthcare
Global consolidation by 2025 and an ambitious agenda for 2026 drive the defense of the family doctor as a pillar of human and sustainable health
In a world where healthcare systems face unprecedented challenges, the international campaign “Thank You, Doctor!” (ThankYouDoctor.org) emerges as a beacon of hope and collective action. Launched at the Vatican in November 2023, this initiative has experienced impressive growth by the end of 2025, evolving from a simple call for awareness into a structured movement that unites institutions, professionals, and communities around the essential value of the family doctor. With a positive and constructive approach, “Thank You, Doctor!” not only highlights problems but also proposes innovative solutions to humanize medicine, prioritize prevention, and ensure the sustainability of healthcare services.
The year 2025 has been a period of strategic consolidation, during which the campaign has clearly defined its mission: to address one of the deep-rooted causes of the global health crisis, namely the undervaluation of the family doctor. This professional, key to the human relationship with the patient, is positioned as the driving force for positive change. The three strategic pillars guiding the initiative—promoting a comprehensive approach focused on prevention, strengthening the human dimension of care, and contributing to efficient systems through value-based care models—emerged from a collaborative dialogue led by SOMOS Community Care and the Pontifical Academy for Life. These foundations not only inspire but also invite all healthcare stakeholders to join together in building a more equitable and resilient future.

One of the most motivating achievements of 2025 was the official presentation to the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 19 in Geneva, where a delegation met with the Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. This meeting, facilitated by the Vatican Secretariat of State, opened doors to future collaborations and highlighted the irreplaceable role of primary care physicians in vulnerable contexts, such as armed conflicts and humanitarian crises. On the same day, ties were strengthened with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the World Council of Churches, demonstrating how the campaign fosters partnerships that transcend borders and sectors to promote more inclusive health.
Professional and academic recognition has also grown encouragingly. At the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom Annual Conference in Wales, the presentation “Value-Based Care Is Putting GPs Back in the Driver’s Seat” placed the family physician at the center as a leader in innovative healthcare models. Furthermore, the European Union of General Practitioners and Family Physicians (UEMO) formalized its membership following a presentation at its General Assembly, bringing together representatives from 21 European countries. This top-level institutional support inspires confidence and motivates more organizations to join. In Spain, the event at CEU San Pablo University in Madrid generated a constructive debate on the humanization of care and the prevention of burnout, with extensive media coverage that amplified the positive message.
The network of allies has expanded impressively, incorporating prestigious institutions such as the Royal European Academy of Doctors, the Madrid Medical Association, and various health and social foundations. Today, the campaign boasts 35 partner organizations, representing the support of over 1.2 million people. This expansion is not merely numerical, but a testament to how collective collaboration can generate real and lasting impact.
In the field of communication, initiatives such as the production of two documentaries titled “Thank You, Doctor!” and the development of bilingual materials have served as inspiring tools for raising awareness in institutional, academic, and media forums. An active presence on social media has allowed us to connect with global audiences, fostering a lively and constructive dialogue about the future of healthcare.

Looking ahead to 2026, the ” Thank You, Doctor! ” agenda promises to be even more transformative, with key events that encourage active participation. In February, the campaign will participate in the International Workshop “Healthcare for All: Sustainability and Equity” in Rome, organized by the Pontifical Academy for Life, to reinforce messages of humanization, prevention, and equity. In March, the DiarioSalud Meet in the Dominican Republic will focus on the patient as the protagonist, promoting innovative and people-centered initiatives.
In short, “Thank You, Doctor!” is not just a campaign; it’s a movement that encourages everyone—doctors, patients, institutions, and society—to build more humane and efficient healthcare systems. With its growing momentum, this initiative demonstrates that, together, we can overcome challenges and create a world where healthcare is accessible, preventative, and empathetic. It’s time to say thank you and take action for a better tomorrow!
