Service was joy
Find five opportunities to serve and make life easier for others
There are people you feel very comfortable around; they bring peace. They think of others. They try not to be
troublemakers. They help you when they sense you’re having a hard time. Furthermore, they see their lives as a service. Not only that, but they rejoice in the good fortune of others. Likewise, they think of others. They aren’t selfish.
One consequence of this attitude, which I’ve observed in these types of people, is that they are cheerful. They always see the positive side of things. They aren’t pessimists. And most importantly, they seem happy. Perhaps this
is the secret to happiness.
As Tagore said in one of his most famous poems: “I slept and dreamed that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I served and understood that service was joy.”
This explains why some people with a good social and economic standing, who seem to lack nothing, don’t appear happy. Their faces don’t reflect joy. They need to stop thinking about themselves and start thinking about others. They are overly selfish.
Think about a typical day in your life and find five opportunities to serve and make life easier for others. It can change your life. Serving and being joyful is a personal choice.
