Resignation and appointment of bishop of San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of Msgr. Fausto Ramón Mejía Vallejo from the office of the bishop of the diocese of San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic, the Reverend Ramón Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera, of the clergy of the same diocese and until now rector of the Pontifical University Madre y Maestra of the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros.
Curriculum vitae
The Reverend Ramón Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera was born on 5 July 1961 in the city of San Francisco de Macorís, in the diocese of the same name. For his priestly formation, in 1977 he was sent to the Santo Cura de Ars minor seminary in the diocese of La Vega. In 1981 he was sent to the Santo Tomás de Aquino major seminary in the archdiocese of Santo Domingo. In 1985 he moved to Germany to study at the Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Bonn, where he was awarded a licentiate and doctorate in theology. He was ordained a priest on 12 January 1991 and incardinated in the diocese of San Francisco de Macorís. As a priest he has held the following positions: parish vicar in the parish of San Bartolomé in Gurabo, archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros, and assistant to the rector of the Northeastern Catholic University (1991-1995); parish vicar of the parish of Santa Cruz in Nagua (1992-1995); pastor of the parish of San Pablo Apóstol, Los Rieles, in the Archdiocese of San Francisco de Macorís (1995-1996); professor of eschatology at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo (UCSD) (1995-1996); formator at the Pontifical Santo Tomás de Aquino Seminary in Santo Domingo (1996 to 2000); dean of philosophy and professor of Christian anthropology at the Pontifical Santo Tomás de Aquino Seminary in Santo Domingo (2000-2001); academic vice-chancellor of the Northeastern Catholic University in San Francisco de Macorís (2001-2004); executive vice-rector of the Northeastern Catholic University in San Francisco de Macorís (2004-2006); director of the Department of Education at the Pontifical Madre y Maestra Catholic University in Santiago de los Caballeros (2006-2008); rector of the Northeastern Catholic University in San Francisco de Macorís (2008-2014); rector of the Schönstatt Institute of Diocesan Priests for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean and president of the Association of University Rectors (ADRU) (2013-2015).
He is currently rector of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra in Santiago de los Caballeros. He has published several books and also many articles in various magazines.
In addition to Spanish, he knows German and English.
Appointment of vicar apostolic of Iquitos, Peru
The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the apostolic vicariate of Iquitos, Peru, the Reverend Fr. Miguel Ángel Cadenas Cardo, O.S.A., until now superior regional of the Order of Saint Augustine in Iquitos.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Miguel Ángel Cadenas Cardo, O.S.A., was born on 21 October 1965 in Laguna de Negrillos in Spain. After completing his primary and secondary studies in Léon, he entered the Order of Augustinians and studied philosophy and theology at the Studio Teológico Agustiniano of Valladolid. He gave his religious vows on 5 May 1991 and was ordained a priest on 27 November 1993.
Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar in Mostoles, Spain (1993-1994); parish vicar in Iquitos (1994-1996); parish priest of Santa Rita de Castilla on the Rio Marañon (1996-2001); formator in the Augustinian Seminary in Trujillo (2002-2003); parish priest of San Felipe y Santiago in Nauta (2003-2013); parish priest of Santa Rita de Castilla on the Rio Marañon (2013-2014) and, since 2015, of the Inmaculada Concepción in Iquitos.
Until now he has been superior general of the Order of Saint Augustine in Iquitos and coordinator of the project to merge the three Augustinian Provinces in Peru.
