Pope Francis, 87, is suffering from bronchitis, which has led to his public engagements being adapted to his health situation. The audiences he had scheduled are taking place at the Casa Santa Marta residence, where he usually resides.
The director of the Vatican Press Office, Matteo Bruni, reported that, despite the illness, the Holy Father continues to attend to his guests, but in a more controlled and comfortable environment for his recovery. “The Pope has a slight case of bronchitis and has been medicated. He continues with his activities, although with the necessary modifications to ensure his rest,” Bruni said.
This is not the first time that the Pope’s health has generated attention. Last November, he had to cancel his trip to Dubai for COP28 due to a respiratory infection. On that occasion, he was also treated with antibiotics and rested at Casa Santa Marta, recovering satisfactorily in a few days.
The Pope’s closeness to the faithful and his unwavering commitment to his responsibilities continue to be evident, even in moments of physical fragility. Prayers for his speedy recovery are multiplying in the Catholic community, which is closely following his progress.
It is hoped that, as his improvement progresses, he will be able to resume his usual schedule. In the meantime, the Vatican will continue to provide information on his state of health and the adaptation of his activities.
