Pope Francis made several appointments, announced Saturday by the Vatican Press Office:
Appointment of special apostolic visitator for the parish of Medjugorje
The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Aldo Cavalli, until now apostolic nuncio in the Netherlands, as special apostolic visitator for the parish of Medjugorje, indefinitely and ad nutum Sanctae Sedis.
Appointment of bishop of Linares, Mexico
The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. César Alfonso Ortega Díaz, vicar general of the diocese of Parral, as bishop of Linares, Mexico.
Mgsr. César Alfonso Ortega Díaz was born on 12 May 1969 in Chihuahua.
He was ordained a priest on 15 Agosto 1996 for the diocese of Parral. He obtained a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar, director of diocesan vocational pastoral care, rector of the diocesan seminary, and judicial vicar. Until now he has served as vicar general, rector of the Cathedral, judge of the diocesan tribunal and member of the College of Consultors.
Appointment of bishop of Bafoussam, Cameroon
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Paul Lontsié-Keuné of Yokadouma as bishop of Bafoussam, Cameroon.
Appointment of office head in the Office of Papal Charities
The Holy Father has appointed as office head in the Office of Papal Charities the Reverend Francesco Mazzitelli, F.D.P., until now deputy office head of Post and Philately of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of Vatican City State.
Appointment of ordinary members of the Pontifical Academy for Life
The Holy Father has appointed as ordinary members of the Pontifical Academy for Life the distinguished Professors: Chris Gastmans, lecturer in medical ethics and Professor of the Center for Biomedical Ethics at the Faculty of Medicine of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium; Laura Palazzani, lecturer in philosophy of law at the Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta, Italy.
Appointment of ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences
The Holy Father has appointed as ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences the distinguished Professor Martín Maximiliano Guzmán, Minister of Economy of Argentina.
Professor Martín Maximiliano Guzmán was born in La Plata, Argentina, on 12 October 1982. He was awarded a licentiate in economics from the National University of La Plata, and subsequently a Master’s degree in economics from the same university and a research doctorate from Brown University, United States of America. He is professor in the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the National University of La Plata, and associate professor in the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires.
He has served as Minister of Economy of the Argentine Nation since December 2019.
