Pope Francis in Video Call with the Parish of Gaza: A Message of Peace and Hope

Through a video call, the Pontiff expresses his solidarity with the Christian community in Gaza, transmitting a message of faith and encouragement in the midst of adversity

Pope Francis, in a gesture of closeness and solidarity, communicated this January 23, 2025, by video call with the parish of Gaza. In a context of great suffering and difficulties in the region, the Pontiff showed his support for the local Christian community, sending a message of encouragement and hope through this digital medium.

During the call, the Pope expressed his deep closeness to the faithful of Gaza, who, despite the adversities they face, remain firm in their faith. The Pontiff warmly greeted the participants, pronouncing a “Salam Alaikum”, an Arabic greeting meaning “peace be with you”, in a gesture of unity and fraternity with all those present. This gesture, full of symbolism, reflects the spirit of inter-religious dialogue that has characterized Francis’ pontificate.

The situation in Gaza remains complex, marked by political tensions and armed conflicts that affect the civilian population, including Christians, who are a minority in the region. However, the Pope did not only offer words of comfort but also a message of hope, highlighting the importance of prayer and mutual accompaniment among believers.

The virtual meeting also allowed participants to share their testimonies and express their concerns to the Pope. The Christian community in Gaza, despite its small number, continues to be a testimony of perseverance and faith amid a difficult context. Francis, listening to their words, reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to be at the side of those most in need, and especially those who live in conditions of suffering.

These types of meetings, in which the Pope uses technology to communicate with vulnerable communities, highlight the importance of the Church in the digital world and its effort to maintain closeness to those who, due to their location or circumstances, cannot access a physical audience with the Pontiff.

With this gesture, Pope Francis reaffirms his commitment to peace, interreligious dialogue and solidarity with those most affected by conflicts around the world. In an increasingly interconnected world, the Pontiff continues to be a leader who, through word and action, seeks to bring comfort and hope to the most needy corners.
