Pope Francis in Trieste, the official program

On Sunday, July 7, he will visit the Julian capital as a conclusion to the Social Weeks of Catholics in Italy

A meeting is planned at the “Generali” Congress Center, a meeting with migrants, ecumenical representatives, university students, and disabled people, and a mass in Piazza Unità d’Italia

There will also be ecumenical meetings and with a group of migrants and the sick on the occasion of Pope Francis’ visit to Trieste next Sunday, July 7. A visit of less than five hours will conclude the Social Week of Catholics in Italy, a multi-year event of the Italian Episcopal Conference that aims to deepen and relaunch the Christian social message and guide the action of believers in the world of work.

The arrival

In Trieste, after taking off from the Vatican heliport at 6:30 a.m. – reads the program released today by the Vatican Press Room – the Pontiff will arrive at the “Generali Convention Center” at 8 a.m. Francis will be received by the president of the CEI, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, by Monsignor Luigi Renna, archbishop of Catania and president of the organizing committee of the Social Weeks, and by Monsignor Enrico Trevisi. With them will also be the President of the Region, Massimiliano Fedriga; the Prefect of Trieste, Pietro Signoriello; Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, and Philippe Donnet, CEO of «Generali».

The speech at the Congress Center


A meeting with the participants in the conference will be held at the same Center. After the greeting of Cardinal Zuppi and the introduction of Monsignor Renna, the Pope will give a speech. Afterwards, as the congressmen head to the Piazza Unità d’Italia, the Pope will briefly meet with various groups: ecumenical representatives, representatives of the academic world and a group of migrants and people with disabilities.

By open car, at 10:00 a.m., Pope Francis will leave the Congress Center and will travel to Piazza Unità d’Italia, where the concelebration of the Eucharist is scheduled at 10:30 a.m., followed by the recitation of the Angelus. Before the final blessing, Bishop Trevisi’s thanksgiving will take place.

At 12:30, takeoff will take place from the Molo Audace in Trieste, with landing at the Vatican heliport at 2:00 p.m.
