In the framework of the Jubilee 2025, Pope Francis addressed communicators and journalists in the Paul VI Hall on January 25. Although he had prepared a written speech, he chose to speak spontaneously, highlighting the profound human and spiritual value of communication.
Francis defined communication as an act of going out of oneself to meet the other, emphasizing that “knowing how to communicate is a great wisdom.” He expressed his gratitude to information professionals for their contribution to building a more cohesive society and for their role in the mission of the Church.
The Pontiff stressed the need for communicators to be truthful, not only in their words, but also in their personal lives, promoting coherence between what they say and what they live. He also recalled the importance of using the power of communication for the common good, building bridges, and fostering mutual understanding.
Although he did not read his prepared speech, it was handed over to the Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication for later dissemination. This gesture reflects the Pope’s desire to foster a closer and more authentic dialogue with the attendees.
The event is part of the Jubilee celebrations, a time of spiritual renewal and community action that invites Christians to reflect on their role in today’s world.
The Pope’s intervention is a reminder of the responsibility that communicators have to always seek the truth and contribute to a communication that unites, inspires and transforms.
