In the framework of COP29, which will be held in Baku (Azerbaijan), Pope Francis reflected on the impact of climate change and the urgent need to take measures to protect the planet. On the eve of the start of the summit, the Pope reviewed the initiatives launched since the publication of the encyclical Laudato si’, highlighting the work carried out during these three years to confront the ecological crisis. In this context, he expressed his hope that the UN summit will be a significant step in the defense of “our common home.”
A renewed appeal for the victims of the Lewotobi volcano
The Holy Father also remembered the populations affected by the eruption of the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano on the island of Flores, Indonesia. At least ten people have lost their lives, including a missionary nun, Sister Nikolin Padjo. The Pope said a prayer for the victims, their families, and the displaced, expressing his closeness to all those affected by the tragedy.
Solidarity with the victims of the floods in Spain
The Pope did not forget the victims of the recent floods in Valencia and other regions of Spain. In his message, he urged the faithful to reflect on what concrete actions they could take to help those affected. A message for peace in Mozambique
Pope Francis also spoke about the situation in Mozambique, where demonstrations over alleged fraud in the October elections have resulted in at least 30 deaths. The Pontiff called for peace and dialogue, asking all those involved to seek fair solutions and to promote democracy and justice in the country.
