Monterrey: Epicenter of Catholic Youth Leadership

Monterrey, Mexico – The city of Monterrey has become the center of Catholic youth leadership by hosting a unique event organized by the International Academy of Catholic Leaders. From January 5 to 9, 2025, the facilities of the University of the Archdiocese of Monterrey will host young people from various parts of the world in an international camp designed to strengthen their political vocation and provide tools from the faith to face contemporary challenges.

The camp program includes a series of conferences and interactive workshops led by prominent speakers. Among the topics to be discussed are:

  • Young people and the Church: The place of young people in the Church. Msgr. Rogelio Cabrera, Archbishop of Monterrey.
  • Young people and the social crisis: The cry of the poorest and the responsibility of young people. Fr. Ángel García, founder of Messengers of Peace.
  • Young people and politics: The utopia of a new society and the political vocation of young people. Monsignor Jorge Cuapio, President of the Academy of Catholic Leaders – Mexico.
  • Our dream: Guadalupe Generation. José Antonio Rosas, General Director of the International Academy of Catholic Leaders.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in deliberative spaces that promote the exchange of ideas and the development of critical skills

Consuelo Báñuelos, director of the School of Catholic Leaders of Monterrey, highlighted the importance of this meeting: “It is incredible and hopeful. In a time when artificial intelligence and electronic devices seem to dominate, seeing dozens of young people wanting to share experiences, learn from experts and grow towards the Common Good fills us with hope. These days will be an opportunity to sow seeds of good that will bear abundant fruit.”

Testimonies

The event also brings together stories of young people committed to their faith and their community. Nicolás Mauro, a 27-year-old Argentine professor of political science and law student, works actively in the Diocese of Mar del Plata and coordinates a group of young adults in the Living Cenacle Movement. Nicolás shares: “My motivation is to learn how to integrate faith and politics to transform society. This camp is a unique opportunity to meet like-minded young people and discover together how we can bring the values ​​of the Gospel to the social and political spheres of our countries.”


For his part, Sebastián Chacón, 28, originally from El Paso, Texas, is a practicing Catholic who has dedicated his time to volunteering in the Ministry of Peace and Justice of his diocese. Sebastián reflects: “The most beautiful thing is to see how young people of different ideologies identify with the Gospel and seek to put into practice God’s call to care for others. Participating in this camp motivates me to continue working in my community and to strengthen my commitment to the Common Good.”

The International Academy of Catholic Leaders, present in 40 dioceses in 15 countries in America, Spain and recently in Africa, has certified more than 35,000 students in various modalities. This international camp reaffirms its commitment to forming leaders committed to faith and the Common Good.
