“Lift Up Your Eyes”: The Pope’s Trip to Spain is Being Prepared with Transparency and Social Support
The organizers of Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey have presented their motto, detailed a provisional cost exceeding 15 million euros, and opened registration and accreditation systems with a model based on social funding and financial oversight
Just weeks before Pope Leo XIV’s arrival in Spain, the organizers of the apostolic journey have officially presented the motto, management model, and initial financial details of the event, which aspires to be a gathering of great spiritual and social impact. Under the invitation “Lift Up Your Eyes,” the visit proposes a collective gesture of openness and hope that underpins all the preparations for the encounter.
The motto, inspired by the Gospel, invites Spanish society to step outside its daily concerns and open itself to contemplation and to others, emphasizing a call to unity, beauty, and charity in the various locations along the Pope’s journey. According to communications officials, this proposal expresses the attitude with which the Church in Spain welcomes the Pope’s visit and the desire for a renewed spiritual impulse.
Along with the motto, the official logo has also been unveiled, conceived as an open, moving circle that symbolizes community and mutual support. The human figures appear linked and projected upwards, with the Virgin Mary at the center as the axis of the whole, an image that reinforces the idea of elevation and common purpose.
On an organizational level, the structure will have two levels: diocesan committees in Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife, responsible for local events, and a national committee in charge of overall coordination, communication, logistics, and shared resources. This model aims to ensure coherence and efficiency in preparing for a visit that will include large-scale events and pastoral gatherings.
New this year, the organizers have announced that all events will include dedicated spaces for digital evangelists, who will be provided with materials to promote the event through their channels, thus broadening the visit’s reach. In addition, registration will be free and will open soon for all attendees, who can register individually or as a group.
One of the most important aspects is the financial forecast. Although the final figure is not yet finalized, initial estimates place the total cost of the trip at no less than 15 million euros. The organization emphasizes that the bulk of the funding will come from private contributions, donations, in-kind resources, and volunteers, with public involvement limited primarily to infrastructure and institutional support.
The organization has also emphasized that all financial transactions will be subject to professional accounting standards, competitive bidding processes for major contracts, and external audits, with the aim of ensuring complete transparency. Cost and funding updates will also be published on a dedicated portal for public monitoring of the event.
