“Let us pray for peace in Israel and Palestine!”

Pope Francis calls for peace and dialogue

Sant’Egidio

Pope Francis has expressed his concern about the conflict between Palestine and Israel on numerous occasions. He has condemned violence on both sides and called for peace and dialogue.

At the Angelus on Sunday, he expressed his concern about the situation in Israel and Gaza. He called for an end to violence and for dialogue to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict.

The Pope said:

“I pray for peace in Israel and Gaza. Violence is not the answer, it only leads to more suffering. Peace is the only way. I urge all parties to refrain from any action that might increase tensions and to engage in serious dialogue to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict.”

The Pope also expressed his solidarity with the victims of the violence and their families.  The Pope said:

“I think of the victims of violence and their families. I pray for them and tell them that they are not alone. The international community is with them and is working to find a solution that will bring peace to the region”.

The Pope’s comments are a reminder of the importance of peace in Israel and Gaza. The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is a tragedy for both sides, and violence only leads to more suffering. Peace is the only way forward for the future of the region.

Pope Francis has been criticised by some for not being critical enough of Israel. However, the Pope has said that his role is “to be a bridge between the two sides” and that he “cannot take sides”.

In addition to the Pope’s comments, the Vatican has made other efforts to promote peace in Israel and Gaza. In 2023, Pope Francis received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid in audience. The Vatican has also sent a delegation to the region to help the parties find a solution to the conflict.

The Vatican’s efforts to promote peace in Israel and Gaza are a testament to its commitment to building a more peaceful world.
