The lack of real support and unfulfilled promises are causing concern among large families in Madrid

Large families are once again concerned about the lack of support such as school lunch grants or access to preschools

Large families in Madrid are once again concerned about the lack of concrete support, such as school lunch grants or access to preschools. Despite receiving recognition and awards, these do not translate into real support that improves their situation. A clear example is the award for the mother of the largest family, which does not include tax breaks for large families before 2023.

Furthermore, although a Birth Plan has been developed, the financial benefits are aimed exclusively at mothers under 30, without considering the father. Consideration for the unborn child has also been proposed, but this aid only applies in cases of multiple births and not for obtaining large family status.

The delay in implementing the family law bill, approved as an emergency measure a year ago, is another source of frustration. Meanwhile, the application period for places in municipal nursery schools is now open, but families expecting a third child cannot prove their large family status to obtain higher scores, unless it is a multiple birth.

The Madrid Federation of Large Families (Fedma) insists on the need for concrete measures, such as universal aid for each child, retroactive tax breaks, and continued support beyond the age of 30. They also emphasize the importance of public policies that promote birth rates and recognize the fundamental role of large families in society.

“Large families are a fundamental part of rejuvenating society and provide the human capital necessary to guarantee generational renewal,” states Fedma. However, the lack of effective legislation that promotes and rewards large families is seen as irresponsible in a context of severe lack of births.

Fedma continues to work to promote public policies that support families and encourage births, proposing initiatives at the municipal, regional, and national levels. For more information, please contact 678546929 or [email protected].
