Pope Francis will pray this Sunday’s Angelus address from Rome’s Gemelli hospital

The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, shared this in an update he communicated in today’s July 9 statement where he affirmed the Pontiff would follow in the tradition of Francis’ predecessor, John Paul II, who on various occasions prayed the Angelus from the Roman hospital known for caring for popes on its 10th floor.

Celebrated Mass

Noting the Pope “spent a quiet day with normal clinical progress,” Bruni said he continues to eat regularly and continues his scheduled treatment. In addition, the Holy Father, the Vatican spokesman shared, “walked in the corridor and resumed his work, alternating it with moments of reading texts.”

“In the afternoon, he celebrated Holy Mass in the chapel of his private apartment, attended by all those assisting him during his hospitalization,” he said.

Without Fever

“Following the brief episode with a slight temperature,” the Vatican statement continued, “the Holy Father is without fever.”

On Sunday, Matteo Bruni announced, “the Angelus will be recited from the tenth floor of the “A. Gemelli” University Hospital.”

Moreover, he recalled the Pontiff’s appreciation for the many messages of affection and closeness that he receives daily, and his ongoing request that we continue to pray for him.

In these days, Pope Francis has expressed his closeness to children with cancer or going in for brain surgery, as well as to all who suffer.

On Wednesday afternoon, in a message, the Pope “expressed his paternal closeness to the young patients in the nearby pediatric oncology and children’s neurosurgery wards, sending them his affectionate greetings.”

Statements have confirmed that the Pope is continuing with good and satisfactory progress and acknowledged that the final histological examination “confirmed a severe diverticular stenosis with signs of sclerosing diverticulitis.”

Here is the Vatican-provided English statement given by Matteo Bruni in today’s noon bulletin, providing the most recent update on the Pope:

His Holiness Pope Francis spent a quiet day with normal clinical progress. He continued to eat regularly and continued his scheduled treatment.

He walked in the corridor and resumed his work, alternating it with moments of reading texts.

In the afternoon, he celebrated Holy Mass in the chapel of his private apartment, attended by all those assisting him during his hospitalisation.

Following the brief episode with a slight temperature, the Holy Father is without fever.

Next Sunday the Angelus will be recited from the tenth floor of the “A. Gemelli” University Hospital.

The Holy Father gives thanks for the many messages of affection and closeness that he receives daily and asks that we continue to pray for him.
