“In Search of the Messiah”: The documentary that reveals how Judaism finds its fulfillment in Christ
“Their new Christianity doesn’t extinguish their Judaism, but rather brings it to its fullness; and they feel happy and proud to be Jewish Catholics”
A profound and luminous testament to hope arrives on Spanish screens. “In Search of the Messiah ,” the vibrant documentary directed by Andrés Garrigó and produced by Goya Producciones, premieres today, April 10, in cinemas across Spain. Running 86 minutes, this international production—filmed in the United States, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Brazil, and Spain—opens for the first time on the big screen an intimate and extraordinary dialogue: that of prominent Jews who have discovered in Jesus the promised Messiah, without ever renouncing their Jewish identity, but rather embracing it to its fullest expression.
Far from any political connotation, the film is situated in purely spiritual terms. “More than ever, we live in uncertain times in which people are thirsting for truth and for a peace that only God can give. This film could be the spark that draws these people closer to the faith that the protagonists of this story have discovered,” explains director Andrés Garrigó. And he adds with emotion: “Their new Christianity doesn’t extinguish their Judaism, but rather brings it to its fullness; and they feel happy and proud to be Catholic Jews.”
Testimonies that touch the heart and unite the Testaments
Through previously unpublished and moving personal accounts, the documentary brings together leading intellectuals, philosophers, professors, and professionals who recount how a transformative encounter with Jesus changed their lives forever. Among them are:
– Roy Schoeman , former professor at Harvard Business School, whose double mystical experience led him to recognize Christ.
– Fabrice Hadjadj , French philosopher and writer, who went from nihilistic atheism to a vibrant faith; today director of the Philanthropos Institute and father of ten children.
– Robert Asch , British literary critic and Chesterton expert, who found in the beauty of music and Scripture the path to the Messiah.
– Dawn Eden , an American theologian and journalist, whose transition from the world of rock to the Catholic faith is a hymn to inner freedom.
– Edgard Leite Ferreira Neto , president of the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy and former rabbi, transformed by an encounter in the grotto of Lourdes.
– Robin Pierucci , an American neonatologist and pro-life advocate, and Luciana Rogowicz , an Argentinian who responds with joy: “Yes, you can be Jewish and Catholic at the same time!”
In addition, the film pays a heartfelt tribute to emblematic figures of the 20th century such as the Chief Rabbi of Rome , Eugenio Zolli , Saint Edith Stein , the poet Max Jacob , and the doctor Bernard Nathanson , the “abortion king” turned tireless defender of life.
Each testimony is a living bridge between the Old and New Testaments. As the official synopsis emphasizes, “Christianity does not break with Judaism: it brings it to its fullness.” The Jews remain the chosen people, for Christ is Jewish, and He desires “one flock and one shepherd.” The film even dares to ask, with its gaze fixed on Saint Paul: are we seeing the first signs of that conversion of Israel foretold by the Apostle? In these turbulent times, the answer resonates with a hope that does not disappoint.
A gift for believers and seekers
“In Search of the Messiah” is not just a documentary: it is a journey to the heart of faith that speaks to Jews and Christians alike, and to all who seek the truth. Popes have repeatedly emphasized the importance of rapprochement between Catholics and Jews; this film, with its sensitivity and powerful testimony, becomes a providential instrument for that dialogue so dear to the Church.
Distributed by Goya Producciones and European Dreams Factory, the film invites audiences to discover mysteries that link ancient promises with their fulfillment in Christ. As Garrigó points out, it is a “spark” in the darkness: an invitation to conversion of heart, to the joy of being fully Jewish and fully Christian, and to the certainty that the Messiah has already come… and continues to call.
Starting April 10th, don’t miss it on the big screen. Because in a world that cries out for hope, “In Search of the Messiah” reminds us that the greatest adventure is that of the soul which, like these witnesses, surrenders to the Love that fills all things.
