Holy Week 2025 at the Vatican: Calendar. Faith, Tradition, and a Long-Awaited Canonization

The Vatican has published the calendar of liturgical celebrations for Holy Week 2025, which will run from April 13, Palm Sunday, to April 27, Divine Mercy Sunday. The ceremonies will take place in St. Peter’s Square and St. Peter’s Basilica, bringing together faithful from around the world for a central moment in the liturgical calendar.

On April 13, at 10:00 a.m., Palm Sunday Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Square, commemorating Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the moments before his Passion. On April 17, Holy Thursday, St. Peter’s Basilica will host the Chrism Mass at 9:30 a.m. The following day, Good Friday, the celebration of the Lord’s Passion will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the same church, followed by the traditional Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum at 9:15 p.m., illuminated by torchlight.

On Holy Saturday, April 19, the Easter Vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s Basilica, preparing the faithful for the joy of the Resurrection. On Easter Sunday, April 20, the Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Square at 10:30 a.m., concluding with the “Urbi et Orbi” blessing.

One of the most anticipated moments will come on April 27, when Blessed Carlo Acutis is proclaimed a saint in a special ceremony in St. Peter’s Square as part of the Jubilee for Adolescents.

The Holy See Press Office has indicated that Pope Francis’s presence at these celebrations will depend on the evolution of his health in the coming weeks.
