God Looks at Me
Being the Parents of a Child with Down Syndrome

The arrival of a child is always a blessing that transforms our lives in unimaginable ways. When that child has Down syndrome, the experience is enriched with unique challenges and joys that bring us closer to God and His unconditional love.
An Unexpected Gift
It’s natural that, upon receiving the news that our child has Down syndrome, feelings of uncertainty and fear arise. However, numerous testimonies from Catholic families show us that these children are inexhaustible sources of love and happiness. Mariana and José Luis, parents of two children with Down syndrome, share that “these children are happy and are also the joy of our lives.”
Strengthened in Faith
Faith plays a fundamental role in accepting and loving our children with special needs. José Ángel and Esperanza, after adopting two children with Down syndrome, express that “adopting them has been the best thing we have ever done in our lives.”
Their testimony reminds us that, through these children, God gives us the opportunity to grow in virtue and charity.
A Supportive Community
It is essential to seek and build a community that accompanies us on this journey. Catholic organizations and support groups offer resources and support to families, helping them face challenges and celebrate victories. The book “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” highlights the positive effects of having children with this condition through testimonies from families.
Looking to the Future with Hope
Studies show that families with children with Down syndrome find overwhelming happiness in their lives. According to research, 99% of parents stated that they loved their children, and 97% that they were proud of them.
These data invite us to look beyond the challenges and recognize the countless blessings these children bring to our lives.
Being the parents of a child with Down syndrome is a special vocation that God entrusts to us. He invites us to love unconditionally, to grow in patience, and to discover the true essence of joy. As we embrace this mission, let us always remember that, through our children, God looks to us, guiding and strengthening us every step of the way.
