Francisco and social media

World Communications Day is an annual celebration that encourages us to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that social media pose to the Church in communicating the Gospel message.

In this sense, the theme that Pope Francis has chosen for the 58th World Day of Social Communications, which will be celebrated next Sunday, May 12 on the Feast of the Ascension, is: «Artificial intelligence and wisdom of the heart: for a communication fully human.”

Certainly, over the years, the pope has emphasized the importance of seeing communication as a means of encounter between people. Thus, on previous occasions, in his message he has addressed aspects of human communication and the significance that some verbs and expressions such as “go”, “see”, “listen” and “speak with the heart” have in achieving a good communication.

Following this line, the Crónica Blanca Latina association, which aims to disseminate the pope’s social teaching, has organized a panel with four journalists from different parts of the world who have interviewed Francis and can tell us something about the pontiff’s relationship with the media. .

The four journalists in question are: Valentina Alazraki (dean of journalists who cover information about the Vatican for Mexican television and media); Elizabetta Piqué (correspondent of the newspaper La Nación in the Vatican); Austen Ivereigh (British biographer and journalist who has written several books about the Pope); and Jorge Fontevecchia (CEO of Editorial Perfil, who recently had the opportunity to meet and interview the pope).

The event will take place, virtually, next Friday, May 10 at 3 in the afternoon in Buenos Aires.
