Follow Jesus. Invocation and Invitation to Christ’s Mission and the Lived Gospel

Following Jesus isn’t simply admiring him or sharing his ideas: it’s embracing his person, his mission, and his Kingdom. It’s a radical and profound invitation to empty oneself, fill oneself with God, and then radiate that light to the world. The Church—both its vocation and its mission—exists essentially for this:  to evangelize and make disciples.

1. The call that transforms

When Jesus says “follow me” to Simon, Andrew, Matthew, and so on, he isn’t proposing a project, but rather a personal incarnation of his life and mission. Responding to this call involves:

  • Taking a decisive step: “They rose and followed him.”

  • Give up security, own less, trust more.

  • Share his journey, even to the cross: “Take up your cross and follow me.”

It is not a moral or intellectual course: it is following a living Person.

2. Catechesis, the center of follow-up

Authentic catechesis does not transfer ideas, but rather the Person of Jesus, inviting us to know his mystery in order to live in communion with Him and the Father:

  • Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

  • Discipleship is not about believing, but about doing God’s will, today.

3. A mission that ignites

The Lord’s missionary mandate—”go and make disciples”—is not optional: it is the Church’s reason for being. To bring the Gospel, to form disciples, and to bear witness to its presence in the community: this is the mission of every baptized person.

Jesus promises: “I am with you always, until the end of the age.” It is more than a consolation: it is a presence that sustains and sends.

4. Communion: foundation and goal

Following is not a solitary path. It is born from the community and looks to it as a sign of Trinitarian love:

  • In community, we build, we sustain, we form disciples.

  • As the Church, we are “the same living Christ” in the world.

5. Spirituality with real fruits

From the hand of the saints and the spiritual experience of the Church, we learn to contemplate Jesus, to adjust ourselves to his will and to live the faith from within, with authentic and service-oriented decisions:  discernment, examination, compassion.

6. Evangelize with joy and testimony

There is no mission without witness. Accompanied by Jesus, every daily gesture—listening, serving, forgiving—is a living Gospel. Those who follow Jesus carry his light wherever they are, even when the world rejects them. The challenge is to accept setbacks and rejection and live the Beatitudes.

Join us in their mission!

Following Jesus is:

  1. Listen to his personal and radical call  : “follow me.”

  2. Configure ourselves with Him : renounce, trust, carry the cross.

  3. Living in community, loving like Him and forming disciples.

  4. Evangelize with joy, using the power of the Spirit.

  5. Contemplate, discern, and place the mission in everyday life.

The great mission calls us from within: set your steps on the path of Christ, allow yourself to be transformed, and go out to meet the world to share his love.

Don’t stop asking yourself

  • Do you feel called to follow Jesus with all your being?

  • What security or “wealth” must you let go of to live the justice of his Kingdom?

  • How can you, in your place today, carry out Christ’s mission?

May your heart be strengthened in faith, your mind kindled with hope, and your hands activated in charity. Let us live as missionary disciples, filled with the Spirit of Jesus.
