Five Minutes to Get to Know Jesus for Real

A simple visit to the Blessed Sacrament as a family can transform the holiday and leave an eternal mark on your children

This Christmas, we should try not only to have our children learn the story of God’s birth, but we should encourage them to get to know him personally. Here is a simple idea that could take just five minutes and make a big difference for all eternity.

When a baby is born, we feel the need to meet him, hug him, and congratulate his mother. We celebrate this new life with joy. At Christmas, we should live with the same attitude: visit the Baby of the Virgin Mary, who may be waiting in the nearest tabernacle.

We often get absorbed in the organization of the party: the food, the gifts, the decorations. And in the midst of it all, we forget the true person being honored. While the shopping malls are full, the churches remain empty, holding the graces that the Holy Family wants to give us, unique and free blessings that we often let pass by.

God is never left behind in generosity. Those five minutes of visiting can bring great changes. He will look with love at that child you care so much about, he will touch the heart of your partner, who may have put him in the background, and he will fill you with peace and joy, even if December brings with it moments of nostalgia.

Do not underestimate the value of those five minutes. It may be difficult to mobilize your family, but every small effort offered to the Lord has an eternal echo. Every prayer, every moment given to Him, will be amply rewarded. A Spanish mother shared a special experience with Exaudi: despite the accumulated tiredness after a family meal, uncomfortable shoes and sleepy children in the car, they decided to make a stop before returning home. Although the easiest thing would have been to continue on their way, they chose to visit the Blessed Sacrament on Christmas Day. That simple gesture became the most special moment of the day. It was a gift from the Lord, an unforgettable memory that marked everyone, including the little ones, who even thought that their parents had planned everything. Mary’s Baby always rewards amply.

By making these kinds of visits, you are giving your family the opportunity to get to know Him in an authentic way, not just through what others say or write, but through a real experience. Our children’s childhood is the ideal time to sow these experiences, so that they can meet Him. An encounter like this can mark their lives forever, making it so that not even the turbulence of adolescence can separate them from Him. And the best of all is that this can be achieved in just five minutes. Why not?
