The second day of the “Lenten Talks” at the Parish of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Burgos focused on the events of Holy Thursday, a crucial day in Holy Week. During this talk, they reflected on Jesus’s Last Supper with his disciples, an event described in the Gospel of Saint Mark.

The Preparation for Passover

Jesus sent two of his disciples to prepare the Passover meal in a room in Jerusalem. Following Jesus’ instructions, they found a man with a pitcher of water, who guided them to the house where the meal would be held. This preparation symbolizes divine providence and the disciples’ trust in Jesus’ instructions.

The Last Supper

During the meal, Jesus announced that one of his disciples would betray him, which caused sadness and confusion among them. Then, he took the bread and wine, blessed them, and shared them with his disciples, thus instituting the Eucharist. This act is at the core of the Christian faith, representing Jesus’ sacrifice for humanity.

The Surrender of Jesus

The talk highlighted the total surrender of Jesus, who, despite knowing he would be betrayed and crucified, did not flee or defend himself. This act of unconditional love is an example of how love can transform evil and suffering into redemption and salvation.

The Importance of the Eucharist

The Eucharist is at the center of Christian life, remembering and reliving Jesus’ sacrifice. The talk emphasized the importance of actively participating in the Mass, not only as an act of worship, but as a union with Christ and a personal transformation.

The Causality of Love

The idea of the “causality of love” was explored, where God’s love is the most powerful and transformative force. This love is not imposed, but offered freely, inviting believers to respond with their own lives.

Participation in the Mass

The talk concluded with an invitation to participate fully in the Mass, recognizing its importance as the center of Christian existence. The Eucharist is not just a symbol, but a living reality that transforms and gives meaning to the lives of believers.
