Father Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on today’s Gospel, Sunday, March 24, 2024, titled “Do not be afraid! No one loves you like He does!”
***
On these holy days, we are going to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year in such special circumstances. Perhaps more than ever you need to ask the Holy Spirit to give you the ability to live the paschal mystery, to be able to encounter Jesus Christ in your concrete life, on your cross, and see how He makes it fruitful and glorious through the gift of His Spirit.
If we contemplate the Passion of the Lord, we can see that there are different ways of placing ourselves before Jesus. Then and now.
Some think they know everything, but in reality, they have understood nothing, such as the high priests and the scribes. They feel threatened by Jesus and try to eliminate him, to silence him…
Others are disenchanted and resentful, like Judas, frustrated because Jesus does not carry out his plan, but rather obeys the will of the Father…
The sleepy and subtly manipulated masses who attend a show, and do not want to see their comfortable tranquility disturbed…
Pontius Pilate, accustomed to calculating everything so as not to get involved in anything, always looking for what is politically correct, washing his hands…
The clueless disciples, who follow Jesus, but a little “from a distance”, full of doubts and fears, scared because they do not quite understand what is happening…
Barabbas, the vigilante, who believed that he was the savior of Israel…
The Cyrenean, who was passing by chance, and whom Jesus came out to meet, surely to change his life forever…
The woman full of love, who wastes perfume because she knows that Jesus is Lord, the most beautiful of men on whose lips grace is poured out…
Pedro, with such good will and so little strength. That he wants to follow the Lord to the end, but in his strength, he experiences his poverty, his weakness and, through it, the gaze of Jesus full of mercy. That look that heals everything, that makes tears flow not from bitterness but from consolation.
The two thieves, crucified with Jesus. One, full of arrogance, will be unable to see beyond appearances; the other, full of humility – which is the door of faith – gives the “blow” of his life and in a minute “steals” paradise from Jesus…
The centurion, overwhelmed by events. A crucifixion professional, who has one certainty: a crucified person who dies like this must be the Son of God…
Mary who, as always, listens, trusts even if she does not understand, remains silent, welcomes, obeys…
And you, how do you position yourself before Jesus at this moment in your life?
Don’t answer this question right away. Take these holy days to meditate on it and be able to respond!
The Lord gives you this Holy Week, which we begin today, so that you can live it with Him. Not from the outside, like someone who sees a spectacle, but from within, accompanying the Lord throughout his journey, from his entry into Jerusalem to the victory. of the Resurrection. And letting yourself be accompanied by Him.
Ask for the Holy Spirit! Ask him to give you a new look, a look of faith, so that you can meet Jesus Christ, who loves you so much that he gives his life for you, who bears all your sins, who, like Peter, looks at you with mercy and tells you : Come and follow me! Don’t remain a spectator or a curious person, nor get lost in interested calculations! Come! I am knocking on the door of your heart, open me! I want to give you a new life.
Do not be afraid! No one loves you like He does!
Come Holy Spirit! (cf. Luke 11, 13).
