Gospel Reflection
In today’s Gospel, Matthew 1:18-24, we read about the moment when St. Joseph decides to divorce her secretly after learning of Mary’s pregnancy. However, an angel of the Lord appears to him in a dream and reveals to him that the child she is carrying in her womb is the Savior, conceived by the Holy Spirit. The angel tells him to name him Jesus, “for he will save his people from their sins.”
This passage shows us the great faith and obedience of St. Joseph. Despite the doubts and fears he may have had, he accepted the divine plan with complete confidence. St. Joseph’s example invites us to reflect on how we respond to God’s plans for our lives, even when we do not fully understand what He asks of us.
The purpose of the day
Today, reflect on your willingness to obey God’s will, as St. Joseph did. Make an effort to trust in Him fully, even in times of uncertainty. Pray for the grace to accept and live out the plans God has for you, always trusting in His love and providence.
How to Live Christmas as a Family
As a family, we can learn from the serenity and faith of St. Joseph. Foster an atmosphere of trust, patience, and unity, especially during these busy days. Take the opportunity to talk about how each member of the family can be more willing to listen and follow God’s ways. At Christmas, the best gift we can offer is love and family unity.
You could also do a short family reflection on the importance of obedience and trusting in God’s plan, just as St. Joseph did, in order to prepare spiritually and deeply for the birth of Jesus.
Prayer for the day
“Lord God, we thank you for the example of St. Joseph, who, with faith and humility, accepted your will to be part of your plan of salvation. Today, we ask you to help us trust in you, to follow your will, and to be obedient to your calls. This Christmas, may your peace and love reign in our family. Amen.”
This day of Advent reminds us of the importance of faith and obedience, and how these values bring us closer to Christ. May St. Joseph inspire us to live with greater confidence in God’s plans.
