On December 7, 2024, the Paul VI Hall in Vatican City will host the fifth edition of the “Concert with the Poor,” an event that combines artistic beauty with social solidarity. This year, it will feature the extraordinary participation of Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, along with renowned cellist Tina Guo, composer and priest Msgr. Marco Frisina, and composer Dario Vero.
A Concert for Everyone
The “Concert with the Poor” is not just a musical event; it is a symbol of unity and charity. In this edition, 8,000 people will attend the concert, including 3,000 indigent guests from various languages and religions, who will be the event’s special guests. These guests, selected through the Dicastery for the Service of Charity and various volunteer organizations, will receive a takeaway dinner and other comforts at the end of the concert.
Internationally Acclaimed Artists
Hans Zimmer is known for his unforgettable soundtracks in films such as “The Lion King,” “Gladiator,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Interstellar,” and “Pearl Harbor.” During the concert, Zimmer will perform and introduce his most famous pieces, alternating on stage with Msgr. Marco Frisina, who will conduct some of his compositions for religious-themed films. The participation of Tina Guo, one of the most recorded cellists in the film and video game industry, will add a special touch to the evening.
Msgr. Marco Frisina, in addition to being the founder and director of the Choir of the Diocese of Rome, is a renowned composer of liturgical hymns and soundtracks for religious films. His music has resonated in important liturgies presided over by the Pope and at events worldwide.
Tina Guo has worked with Hans Zimmer on numerous occasions and is known for her versatility as a cellist and composer. Her collaborations include the soundtrack for “Wonder Woman” and her participation in international events such as the League of Legends World Championship and Comic-Con.
Dario Vero, a composer and conductor, has worked on various institutional and cinematic projects. His collaboration with the “Kiev Virtuosi” orchestra and participation in productions like “Mission: Impossible” highlight his talent and versatility.
Orchestra and Choir
The Nova Opera Orchestra, composed of top musicians from Italy and Europe, will perform a repertoire ranging from classical music and opera to film soundtracks. The Choir of the Diocese of Rome, founded in 1984 by Msgr. Frisina, is celebrating its 40th anniversary and has participated in numerous liturgical and cultural events, both in Italy and abroad.
A Day of Meeting and Solidarity
The day will begin with a private audience for the artists and partners of Nova Opera with Pope Francis, underscoring the importance of the event in promoting values of solidarity and inclusion. Organizations such as Caritas of Rome and Lazio, the Community of Sant’Egidio, and the Circolo San Pietro, among others, will collaborate in this event, ensuring that the most needy receive the support and dignity they deserve.
