Carlo Acutis, the Italian boy who died at the age of 15 and declared the patron saint of Internet users due to his passion for computing, will be raised to the altars. Pope Francis authorized it this Thursday, May 23, after an audience in the Vatican with Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
A miraculous cure of a 6-year-old Brazilian boy, with a congenital disease, thanks to the intercession of Carlo Acutis already declared blessed, allows him now, with the approval of Pope Francis, to be named a saint.
Matheus, the Brazilian boy, suffered from annular pancreas, as recorded in an examination carried out in 2012, a rare congenital malformation of the pancreas that could only be cured with surgical intervention. On October 2, 2013 in the temple of San Sebastiao, in Brazil, after a blessing with a relic of Carlo Acutis, Matheus, who was not subject to regular physical development and vomited everything he ate, at the suggestion of his grandfather who accompanied him, he asked for the grace to never vomit again, and so it happened.
In the diagnoses carried out thereafter, it was verified that the malformation disappeared, and the pancreas was cured.
Carlo Acutis, who died of fulminant leukemia, repeated: “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.” On February 21, 2020, Pope Francis approved the beatification of Carlo Acutis, after the Medical Consultation expressed its positive opinion of a miracle attributed to his intercession in November 2019. Despite his young age, Acutis had made an exhibition about Eucharistic miracles in the world with the collaboration of the Pope and Martyr Saint Clement I Institute.
Today this exhibition, hosted in the parishes that request it and also present online, has visited almost 10,000 parishes on the five continents and has been in some of the most famous Marian shrines, such as Fátima, Lourdes and Guadalupe.
In today’s session the canonization of Blessed Giuseppe Allamano, founder of the Consolata Mission, was also approved; of Blessed Emanuele Ruiz and 7 companions, of the Order of Friars Minor; and Francisco, Abdel Mooti and Raffaele Massabki, lay faithful, murdered out of hatred for the faith in Damascus (Syria) between July 9 and 10, 1860; of the blessed Marie-Léonie Paradis and Elena Guerra.
