Father Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on today’s Gospel, Sunday, April 7, 2024, titled “If you believe, you will see the glory of God”
***
The Word of God that we proclaim on this Sunday of the Octave of Easter or Divine Mercy invites us to contemplate the resurrected Jesus Christ, who becomes present in the Church with the gift of the Holy Spirit.
And he invites you to let yourself be found by the Risen Jesus Christ. Ask for it! This encounter with the Lord will change your life forever.
The encounter with the Risen Jesus Christ will fill you with joy and peace. Of joy because you will be able to see the love of God in the midst of your specific story. Because you will be able to meet the Lord in the midst of your wounds. Yes, from your sores. But glorious, resurrected wounds, a sign of the victory of Jesus Christ in your life. And then, looking with the eyes of faith, you will be able to say in amazement: My Lord and my God! And peace, because you can rest in the Lord. You will not know what will happen tomorrow, but you will have a certainty sealed in your heart: that there is nothing and no one that can separate you from the love of God manifested in Christ Jesus.
And to the extent that you welcome the gift of the Spirit, a new life will appear in you: you will experience the forgiveness of sins, the Divine Mercy, the free love of God. A love that you don’t have to earn. A love that precedes you and will always accompany you: God will never stop loving you. God is faithful and he keeps his promises. That is our rest and the foundation of our hope.
And this experience will lead you to meet other brothers with whom you can live and share this new life. It will insert you into a new family: the Church.
A Church of poor and sinners, like you and me. But poor and sinners loved by God, forgiven and saved by Jesus Christ, open to the gift of the Holy Spirit, who renews everything. A Church that grows through water and blood, living the richness of Baptism and nourishing itself with the Eucharist. A Church that wants to be faithful to its Lord by keeping his commandments. A Church that witnesses to the resurrection of the Lord; bears witness that Jesus Christ lives and is Lord.
You too, if you believe, will see the glory of God. You will see the end of today’s Gospel fulfilled in your life: Many other signs, which are not written in this book, did Jesus… They will be written in your History… If you let Jesus Christ be the Lord of your life, and you open yourself to the action of his Spirit… you will see the glory of God in your life. Every day you will be able to say My Lord and my God! Because you will be amazed, contemplating the Lord who lives and walks with you.
Happy Easter, Happy Encounter with the Risen One!!
Happy Sunday! Happy Eucharist!
