Pope Francis has appointed as Bishop of Avellaneda-Lanús, Argentina, HE Mgr. Marcelo Julián Margni, currently titular Bishop of Stefaniaco and Auxiliary of the Diocese of Quilmes. The Vatican made the announcement on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
Curriculum vitae
HE Mons. Marcelo Julián Margni was born in Avellaneda on September 12, 1971. He studied in the Seminary of the Diocese of Quilmes and was ordained a priest on September 24, 1999. He obtained a licentiate in theology with a specialization in youth ministry and catechesis at the University Salesian Pontifical in Rome.
He has held the following positions: Parish Vicar of the Sagrada Familia in Berazateguí, of San Cayetano in Quilmes Oeste, of San Martín de Porres in Florencio Varela, of the Exaltación de la Cruz de los Quilmes in Ribera de Quilmes and of the Cathedral of Quilmes; Parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Medalla Milagrosa in Bernal Oeste; Director of the Diocesan Institute of Catechesis San Pablo Apóstol, Pastoral Director of the Parish Nuestra Señora de Itatí , Episcopal Vicar of Evangelization, Rector of the Diocesan Seminary and Member of the Presbyteral Council and of the College of Consultors.
On December 5, 2017, he was appointed titular bishop of Stefaniaco and auxiliary of Quilmes, receiving episcopal ordination on March 16, 2018.
The Latin Rite Catholic Diocese of Avellaneda-Lanús (erected 10 April 1961, as the Diocese of Avellaneda) is in Argentina and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires. It was renamed on 24 April 2001.
Appointment of Member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints
The Vatican also announced that the Holy Father has appointed Cardinal Francesco Montenegro, Archbishop Emeritus of Agrigento, as a member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
The congregation prepares each year everything necessary for the pope to be able to set forth new examples of holiness. After approving results on miracles, martyrdom, and heroic virtues of various Servants of God, the Holy Father proceeds to a series of canonizations and beatifications.
