Pope at Gemelli: Quiet night
March 9. Francis is improving slightly, explains last night's bulletin, he has remained fever-free and his gas exchanges have improved; but the prognosis is still reserved

“The night has been quiet, the Pope is resting.” This is what the Holy See Press Office communicated this morning, March 9, in the update on the state of health of the Pontiff, hospitalized in the “Agostino Gemelli” Polyclinic in Rome since February 14.
Yesterday’s Bulletin
“The Holy Father’s clinical condition has remained stable in recent days and, consequently, he is responding well to therapy. A slight, gradual improvement is therefore observed. The Holy Father has remained fever-free at all times. Gas exchange has improved; haematochemical and haematocytometric tests are stable. The doctors, to record these initial improvements in the coming days, are prudently maintaining the prognosis as still reserved. This morning, after receiving the Eucharist, the Holy Father was in prayer in the chapel of his private apartment, while in the afternoon he alternated between rest and work activities.”
This is reported in the bulletin of the Holy See Press Office released this afternoon, Saturday 8 March, on the state of health of Pope Francis, hospitalised since 14 February at the “Agostino Gemelli” Polyclinic in Rome.
As planned, the Pope, after receiving high-flow oxygenation with nasal cannulas during the day, will be switched to noninvasive mechanical ventilation during the night. The Pope will continue the spiritual exercises, which begin tomorrow, in spiritual communion with the Roman Curia. The text of the Pope’s Angelus will be broadcast on recent Sundays. It is possible that a medical bulletin will not be published tomorrow, given the stability of the clinical picture, but the Vatican Press Office will continue to provide information to journalists.
