Pope in Gemelli, two episodes of acute respiratory failure
These were caused by the accumulation of mucus, which was aspirated on both occasions. Non-invasive mechanical ventilation was resumed

“Today the Holy Father had two episodes of acute respiratory failure, caused by a significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus and consequent bronchospasm.
Therefore, two bronchoscopies were performed, requiring aspiration of abundant secretions. Non-invasive mechanical ventilation was resumed in the afternoon.
The Holy Father has always remained conscious, oriented and cooperative. The prognosis remains reserved.”
This is reported in the bulletin of the Holy See Press Office released this afternoon, Monday, March 3, on the state of health of the Pope, hospitalized since February 14 at the Gemelli Polyclinic.
