Monterrey has become the epicenter of Catholic youth leadership by hosting an unprecedented event organized by the International Academy of Catholic Leaders. Between January 5 and 9, 2025, the facilities of the University of the Archdiocese of Monterrey hosted an international camp that brought together young people from various parts of the world. This event aimed to strengthen their political vocation and provide tools, from the perspective of faith, to face current challenges.
Within the framework of the First International Camp of Young Catholics with a Political Vocation, an important fruit emerged from the reflective work carried out during those days: a political manifesto entitled “Youth, Church and Political Vocation: Prophetic Leadership at the Service of the Common Good.” This document highlights the commitment of young people to building a more just and supportive society based on the values of the Gospel.
The manifesto addresses the main social challenges facing young people today, such as exclusion, the ecological crisis and polarization. It also underlines the need for a synodal, inclusive and prophetic Church. Inspired by the call of Pope Francis, the signatories of the document commit to being transformative leaders who act with courage and authenticity to generate a positive impact in their communities.
Among the commitments assumed, the young people highlight:
- The promotion of intergenerational and cultural dialogue.
- The defense of human rights.
- Active participation in political life.
- Caring for the environment.
- The promotion of family values inspired by the Holy Family.
With this manifesto, the young people reaffirm their desire to be the renewing face of the Church and agents of hope in the social and political sphere. In addition, they emphasize that politics is “one of the highest forms of charity.”
Commitment to the formation of leaders
The International Academy of Catholic Leaders, with a presence in 40 dioceses in 15 countries in America, Spain and Africa, has certified more than 35,000 students in various modalities. This international camp reinforces its commitment to forming leaders committed to faith and the common good, reaffirming the capacity of youth to transform society from the values of the Gospel.
The document seeks to inspire other generations to join the commitment to justice, reconciliation and the construction of the common good, collaborating with various sectors of society to achieve a sustainable and supportive transformation.
