Pope’s prayer intention for the month of September: For the cry of the Earth

Hope and act with Creation

Below we publish the text of the Pope’s Video with the prayer intention for September distributed through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network on the theme For the cry of the Earth: Let us pray that each one of us may listen with our heart to the cry of the Earth and of the victims of environmental disasters and the climate crisis, committing ourselves in the first person to protect the world we inhabit:

Text of the Holy Father’s Video

Let us pray for the cry of the Earth.

If we take the planet’s temperature, it will tell us that the Earth has a fever. And it feels ill, like any sick person.

But do we hear this pain?

Do we hear the pain of the millions of victims of environmental catastrophes?

Those who suffer most from the consequences of these disasters are the poor, those who are forced to leave their homes because of floods, heat waves or droughts.

Addressing man-made environmental crises such as climate change, pollution and the loss of biodiversity requires responses that are not only ecological, but also social, economic and political.

We must commit ourselves to fighting poverty and protecting nature, changing our personal habits and those of our community.

Let us pray that each of us may listen with our hearts to the cry of the Earth and to the cry of the victims of environmental disasters and climate change, by personally committing ourselves to caring for the world we inhabit.
